Avengers: Secret Wars Could Be Delayed Again

Rumors that Avengers: Secret Wars could be split into multiple parts have been spreading across the internet in recent days—and Legado has a theory!

Avengers: Secret Wars is still officially scheduled for December 2027. Even so, recent discussions suggest the timeline may not be set in stone. Part of that conversation began after insider reports pointed to the possibility of splitting the film into two chapters.

The idea would be tied to the scale of the story. A sweeping narrative typically demands more screen time, something common in productions aiming to wrap up major arcs within Marvel. There has been no confirmation from the studio so far—only speculation.

The theories that didn’t gain traction

The first theory raised by fans suggests the movie could hit theaters labeled “Part 1” and “Part 2.” However, that format has lost momentum in Hollywood in recent years. There’s a growing perception that calling a film the “first part” might discourage viewers who prefer a complete, self-contained story.

The studio itself has avoided this route before. Avengers: Infinity War was originally planned to be split that way, but the project was rebranded when the following chapter became Endgame. That track record helps weaken the new theory.

Another possibility points to an additional film after Secret Wars. For years, fans have mentioned a potential Avengers Forever as the closing chapter of the Multiverse Saga. The more common interpretation, however, is that Secret Wars already carries enough weight to serve as the finale while also making room for a soft reboot of the MCU.

The reason behind a possible delay

If the intention is truly to position Secret Wars as the final major chapter of this phase, the release calendar may need adjustments. In that scenario, the film would no longer occupy the sixth slot among Avengers movies and would instead become the seventh.

The direct consequence would be a delay to 2028. The current December 2027 date could then be reserved for a still-untitled project.

Among fans, there’s speculation that this extra release could arrive in May 2028. The month would mark the 20th anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, allowing the conclusion to double as a broader celebration of the franchise.

None of this has been confirmed. For now, what exists is a set of projections based on rumors and the studio’s history when planning saga finales. Until Marvel makes an official statement, the future of Secret Wars remains open to change.
