In an interview, the actress who plays Captain Marvel in the MCU, Brie Larson, highly praised Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel.

Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) recently shared high praise for her The Marvels co-star, Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel), confirming that Vellani’s real-life persona is a perfect match for her on-screen character.
Speaking at Spacecon San Antonio, Larson stated that Vellani essentially “plays herself” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Larson explained that the comparison goes beyond just the character’s personality. “It’s not just that she knows Ms. Marvel, it’s that she knows everything, and so, she really is that character in that way”, Larson said. She also added that Vellani is “so good and she’s such a talented actress”.
A Walking MCU Encyclopedia
This sentiment is not new for the MCU cast and crew. Iman Vellani’s reputation as a massive, real-life Marvel superfan is well-documented. During the press tour for The Marvels, both Larson and director Nia DaCosta noted that Vellani’s encyclopedic knowledge of Marvel comics and MCU canon was a vital resource on set.
Vellani, who has famously joked about correcting Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige on continuity, embodies the same fan passion that defines her character, Kamala Khan. Larson’s comments simply reaffirm that the casting was perfect, as Vellani’s genuine enthusiasm and deep knowledge of the universe are identical to the hero she portrays.
