Mark Ruffalo Reveals Why Marvel Cut Him From Avengers: Doomsday

The recent, extensive cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday included numerous returning Marvel heroes and several unexpected additions from the X-Men universe.

Noticeably absent, however, was Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner/Hulk. When asked about his exclusion, the actor offered a characteristically humorous explanation.

Ruffalo appeared on Fallon Tonight and joked that Marvel Studios’ decision was entirely strategic. He claimed the producers “decided that it was better to get rid of me than for me to tell the end of the next movie.”

The History of Mark Ruffalo’s Spoilers

The actor is, of course, notorious within the Marvel community for accidentally revealing major plot points or spoilers for past films, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. His tendency to prematurely leak details has become a running joke, both among his co-stars and with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

Ruffalo’s self-deprecating comment plays perfectly into this long-running history, playfully suggesting that keeping the actor off the official cast list for Avengers: Doomsday is the only way the studio can ensure the secrets of the massive multiversal plot remain safe until the film’s confirmed premiere in December 2026.

Despite the joke, many fans remain convinced that the Hulk will return, possibly as a surprise reveal in the upcoming film or its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars.

His appearance is considered a major component of any massive team-up, and leaving him out would be a significant shift in the core Avengers lineup.

Do you think Marvel Studios is capable of keeping the Hulk’s status a secret, or is a surprise return for the character inevitable in Avengers: Doomsday?
