Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to be the next massive film for Tom Holland’s hero, currently scheduled for a July 30, 2026 release. It is one of next year’s most anticipated blockbusters, yet recent news reveals the film will be shut out of the world’s biggest theaters.
The IMAX network, known for its massive screens and advanced sound systems, provides the ultimate viewing experience. Unfortunately, their nearly 1,800 theaters worldwide will not show Spider-Man 4.. The new Marvel and Sony film is completely missing from the 2026 IMAX release calendar, and the reason is a major scheduling conflict.
Why Nolan’s New Film is Bumping Spider-Man
The reason for the snub is another massive film: The Odyssey, the new movie from director Christopher Nolan (Interstellar, Oppenheimer). The studio scheduled The Odyssey for release just two weeks before Spider-Man 4. And curiously, the film also stars Tom Holland and Zendaya.
Nolan’s new film has secured an extended exclusivity window for all IMAX screens. This exclusivity directly prevents Spider-Man: Brand New Day from releasing in that format.. This decision stems from Nolan’s own deep history with the company, as he was a key figure in popularizing the IMAX format for feature films.
A History of Loyalty
Nolan has been shooting his films for IMAX since his Batman movies. Back when the cameras were giant, heavy, and loud. For The Odyssey, he reportedly filmed the entire movie in the format, guaranteeing its exclusive run in those premium theaters for several weeks.
IMAX has confirmed, however, that Avengers: Doomsday will receive an IMAX release when it premieres in December 2026. So, at least one major Marvel film will be available in the premium format next year.
