Spider-Man 4: Status of the new film with Tobey Maguire is revealed
In an interview, screenwriter Mattson Tomlin revealed the status of the hypothetical Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi.

Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin (The Batman), who has publicly championed his desire to write a Spider-Man 4 for Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi, has revealed the project’s current, complicated status.
While the hypothetical film is far from being greenlit, Tomlin offered a small sliver of hope, confirming that the idea hasn’t been completely shut down by the studios.
In a recent interview, Tomlin was asked about his pitch to work on Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4. His answer was cautiously optimistic, stating that he “hasn’t gotten a no yet” regarding his potential involvement.
This small update indicates that the door is not definitively closed on the beloved franchise, a fact that is sure to keep fan campaigns alive.
A Complicated Political Web
Despite the lack of a hard “no”, Tomlin was quick to manage expectations, emphasizing that the film faces enormous logistical and political hurdles that are completely out of his control.
“There won’t be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things going right that have nothing to do with me,” Tomlin explained.
This confirms that the project is not in active development. It requires a perfect alignment between Sony, Marvel Studios, Sam Raimi, and Tobey Maguire before it can even be considered, leaving the film’s future entirely uncertain.
