The recent, extensive cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday included numerous returning Marvel heroes and several unexpected additions from the X-Men universe. Noticeably absent, however, was Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner/Hulk. When asked about his exclusion, the actor offered a characteristically humorous explanation. Ruffalo appeared on Fallon Tonight and joked that Marvel Studios’ decision was entirely strategic. His appearance is considered a major component of any massive team-up, and leaving him out would be a significant shift in the core Avengers lineup.
