Avengers: Doomsday Leak Reveals Steve Rogers and Doctor Doom Team-Up

Avengers 5 will revisit—and play with once again—the best dynamic in MCU history: Robert Downey Jr. alongside Chris Evans!

A piece of information circulating among sources connected to the production of Avengers: Doomsday points to a scenario few fans were expecting. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans will be together again, but this time on the same side. At least at first.

The dynamic between the two actors has always been the emotional engine of the MCU. From reluctant partners in the first Avengers to their falling-out in Captain America: Civil War, the relationship between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers defined an entire era of the cinematic universe. Now, Marvel seems intent on revisiting that chemistry, but with completely different roles.

What we know so far

Evans returns as an alternate version of Steve Rogers, different from the one who retired in Endgame. Downey Jr., meanwhile, takes on the role of Victor von Doom, the major villain of the new phase. They are new characters played by familiar faces.

The most intriguing detail is that, according to the rumor, the two don’t start out as adversaries. The information suggests that Doom arrives on Earth-616 alongside the Fantastic Four and Steve Rogers, all aboard the same ship. This scene is reportedly directly connected to the Thunderbolts* post-credits sequence.

The apparent idea is to introduce Doom as someone who pretends to cooperate with the heroes—an infiltrator. This reinforces earlier rumors that the character would act as an ally before revealing his true intentions.

What this changes in the story

If the information proves accurate, Doomsday will open with a false sense of security. The audience knows Doom is the villain, but the characters within the film do not. This kind of setup gives the script room to build tension more gradually instead of throwing the main conflict at viewers in the opening minutes.

It’s also an interesting move from a narrative standpoint. Marvel gets to tap into the emotional connection audiences have with Evans and Downey Jr. together while subverting expectations. Instead of rivals who become friends, we may see apparent allies heading toward an inevitable confrontation.

The source of the rumor is considered reliable by industry outlets, although Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed anything. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to premiere on December 18.
